Have you ever wondered why some people are successful while others aren’t? It’s a fair question to ask and wonder about.
Consistency is the difference between failure and success. Here’s why?
Many factors go into how someone becomes successful at anything, one of these factors is consistency. Most people want to be rich and successful but a lot don’t want to go through what it takes to that point.
You may wonder what consistency is? Well, consistency is defined as — the ability to remain the same in behaviour, attitudes or qualities. Being consistent in anything is difficult, but like building muscle, the more you train that muscle, the stronger it gets.
You see, consistency is what separates average individuals from successful people. The ability to do what needs to be done when you don’t want or feel like doing anything.
Consistency allows you to measure success. Until you’ve had the chance to try something consistently over some time, you won’t know if it works or not.
Consistency holds you accountable when you can do something over some time. You begin to develop a standard for yourself that you must hold and carry. Every action is a vote of who you want to be. For example, if you want to become a writer, you have to write every day. With consistency, you can hold yourself accountable.
Inconsistency creates insecurity, there are several talented people out there but many start something and never follow through to the end. When you begin something and never finish it, you develop insecurities with yourself because the only person that you let down when you don’t finish what you started is you.
Consistency is important on a personal level. Continuing to show up will instil confidence in you. Consistency has the power to make you feel unstoppable. The issue is that people become too wrapped up in results and want instant gratification.
These days it’s easy to become mentally tough, everyone wants instant gratification with everything. If you can delay gratification, stop caring about what others think of you and just focus on getting better, you will be ahead of most people.
Being mentally tough and sharp is required in anything you do in life. This is where consistency comes from, pick something you want to become better at either exercise, reading, meditation or eating healthy and stick to it no matter what you are feeling or going through.
When I became serious about consistency, I tried meditation every day. The first three months were difficult because meditation requires focus and concentration. I had never done anything like that before, so showing up every day was difficult. There were times where I wanted to stop and quit meditation but I realised that quitting would just put me back to the place I was.
Over time I developed a consistent habit to meditate first thing in the morning for anything, the ability to clear my mind and just focus on observing my thoughts helped me greatly dealing with stressful situations.
